Coast guards seized narcotics worth Rs 2.5 bn in 1999

KARACHI: Coast Guards seized narcotics, worth Rs 2.5 billion in the international market, and arrested 32 drug traffickers during January-December 1999, sources said on Sunday.

Besides narcotics seizures Ñ 248 kg of heroin, 3151 kg of charas and 24 kg of opium Ñ the Coast Guards has recovered other contrabands worth Rs 500 million.

The arrested include notorious smugglers of international repute and many of them were wanted in heinous crimes.

The Pakistan Coast Guards had taken stringent measures in collaboration with other law enforcing agencies in curbing smuggling of contraband goods and narcotics through their traditional routes.
