Hearing in Wattoo's plea adjourned
Recorder Report
LAHORE: An accountability court headed by M A Shahid Sidiqui adjourned the proceedings in an application filed by former Punjab chief minister, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, in which he had prayed to the court to discharge him from the case.
The court directed the special prosecutor to present his arguments on the application on 31.
Earlier, a co-accused in the case, Ghulam Murtaza, submitted an application along with a draft of Rs 0.7 million and prayed to the court to accept the same and discharge him from the case.
Two other co-accused also submitted in writing that they were ready to pay the due amount towards them and requested the court to accept the same and discharge them.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo contended in his application that since all the three accused were ready to pay the amount due towards them, the case against him should be quashed.
He contended that he did not commit any illegal action and only used his discretionary powers in his capacity as chief minister. He said that under the law he was authorised to do so.
The court, however, adjourned the proceedings to January 31 for arguments on the said applications.
