RECORDER REPORT

FAISALABAD: Lt. General Tauqir Zia, Commander-I Corps Mangla, has stressed the need for a team spirit to pull the country out of the socio-economic crisis.

Addressing a briefing in the Office of Chief Executive, Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company (Fesco) here on Saturday, he said that there is no dearth of honest, capable and devoted officers, but they had not been able hitherto to exploit their potential due to the prevailing circumstances.

He said now honest officials would be encouraged to play a dynamic role for the mitigation of people's problems besides putting the country on the road to progress and prosperity.

He also asked the senior officers to pay due consideration to the problems confronting the lower cadres, enabling them to contribute substantially towards national uplift.

The Corps Commander said that Wapda is a big organisation of national importance. About the army's recent role in bailing out the Authority, he said "Army was helping the civil administration in detecting ghost schools and the canals desilting drive, but Wapda was not on the cards," and added that the army was asked to take it over in view of its vital role in the national economy.

He appreciated the positive role of the Army in these sectors and said that the Punjab government is saving up to Rs 3.2 billion per year after the elimination of ghost schools.

Reviewing the performance of Fesco, he voiced satisfaction.

He observed that the condition of Faisalabad town had deteriorated in the last 10-12 years ago. However, he expressed the hope that the reconstruction work in progress will give it a better look within the next one or two years'.
