JI seeks solution of farmers' problems

LAHORE: Punjab Jamaat-e-Islami has urged the provincial government to take serious notice of demands of the farmers and resolve them at the earliest so as to avoid any agitation from peasants.

Punjab JI chief Hafiz Mohammad Idrees and Secretary General Azhar Iqbal Hassan, in a joint statement issued here on Thursday, said that as former rulers were themselves industrialists they exploited the farmers.

The release described the decision of the government to deduct five percent from the payments to farmers by the sugar mills as an injustice and a violation of the Cane Act.

It was also alleged that despite the lapse of one-and-a-half months in the period given by the government to sugar mills for payment of dues to farmers the payments are still not made.

They urged the government to immediately resolve these problems otherwise unrest away the farmers would be difficult to control.
