Asfandyar demands ehtesab of military bureaucracy
IQBAL KHATTAK
PESHAWAR: The suspended MNA and President of Awami National Party (ANP) Afsandyar Wali Khan on Thursday demanded expansion in accountability net to bring the military bureaucracy also under its spotlight.
"Corrupt politicians should not be targeted alone," Asfandyar speaking to party activists at a function to observe the 12 death anniversary of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, known as Bacha Khan, at Nishtar Hall.
He said: Army generals, guilty of corrupt practices, should be made accountable as well. They are not sacred cows."
"We welcome accountability process, but all, including politicians, civil and military bureaucracy and judiciary, should be treated alike. Real spirit of a true ehtesab demands that every corrupt person, irrespective of his status, should be brought to book," the ANP president said.
Afsandyar remarked politicians were not wary of punishment provided they were proven guilty in the court of law, adding that why political leaders were held without cogent reasons.
The ANP president's outburst followed arrest of ANP central leader Azam Hoti on corruption charges by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
