FIA sacks 44 contract employees

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has terminated the services of 44 contract employees of FIA on Wednesday with immediate effect, in order to restore the neutrality and credibility of the agency.

Moreover, a substantial number of officers from irrelevant departments were appointed on deputation. They also did not have the experience of working in FIA. These personnel not only brought bad name to the government and to the agency, but also down its performance graph. The government, 20 out of them have repatriated to their parent departments, official sources said.

Among those whose contract has been terminated include; one deputy director, ten assistant directors, eight inspectors, eight sub-inspectors, twelve ASI's, four constable and one clerk.

An official of the agency said that FIA, which is a vital organ of Federal government to check and curb corruption, had earned the reputation of having become a tool in the hand of politicians to harass their opponents. Number of such personnel were inducted into it, who had a political clout. In most of the cases such personnel did not have the requisite qualification and experience to hold the posts and responsibilities they were entrusted and were recruited without following procedure.

Sources said that corrupt officials of the agency would also be terminated after preparing the list of them. They said that the Establishment Division has directed the FIA to furnish list of the officials involved in corruption and corrupt practices with their assets. The final decision would be taken by the National Accountability Bureau after through investigations.
