20000102Govt urged against duty on humanitarian medical supplies
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: Pakistan Society for Cancer Prevention (PSCP) has called upon the government not to impose custom duty on the limited medical supplies the organisation received from abroad on humanitarian grounds.
This was demanded by PSCP Chairman, Dr. Tariq Parvez, who said that the issue deserved sympathetic consideration, otherwise the poor beneficiaries of the program will suffer as the organisation will have to ask the donor organisations to stop sending the supplies.
He explained that such supplies are sent and received by NGOs all over the world, and there is no custom duty on them in any other country.
He, however, said that he had paid custom duty due to Ramazan, and now people could contact the organisation for such supplies.
