CBR taking steps to remove tax-payers' difficulties
ISLAMABAD: The Central Board of Revenue is taking steps to implement the directives of the Chief Executive in order to ameliorate the difficulties of the tax-payers.
The Chief Executive, in his address to the nation on December 15, had, inter alia, stressed the need for speedy payment of admissible tax refunds to the tax-payers.
He had directed that a detailed mechanism be evolved to ameliorate the difficulties of the tax-payers in this regard.
According to CBR, to implement the Chief Executive's directive, a wide-ranging exercise is underway. CBR has already taken cognizance of cases where one tax authority under its control had sanctioned refunds to a tax-payer while another was independently resorting to coercive measures for the recovery of its dues from him.
The CBR also took cognizance of the tax authorities' reluctance to adjust sanctioned refunds in terms of one tax law against outstanding liabilities under another tax law inspite of the existence of enabling provision in the law. Detailed instructions have been issued to all field formations to invoke the said provisions of law and facilitate persons seeking such adjustments.
Persons desirous of availing the afore-mentioned instructions are advised to address applications in prescribed forms to relevant field formations and send a copy thereof to CBR.
Member (Tax Policy) will ensure that the adjustments sought for, are speedily made, if otherwise in order. APP
