59 pc Pakistanis upbeat about 2000: Gallup
LAHORE: Almost 59 percent of the Pakistanis believe the year 2000 will be better for them and for the country in general.
This was revealed in a Gallup poll, which covered about 50,000 households of different nationalities, races and religions and conducted under the direction of Gallup Pakistan Chairman Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gilani in the last week of December '99.
"Would you say the coming year will be better, worse or the same as the one which is just ending?" To this question 59 percent Pakistanis responded "better".
However, 10 percent said "worse", 20 percent expected "no difference", while 10 percent did not answer.
The number of hopefuls in Pakistan have risen by 12 percent from last year's 47 percent this year.
The global mood is also different as compared to last year where the hopefuls rose to 54 percent from 30 percent for the year 2000. APP
