KMC's cleanliness

drive in full swing

KARACHI: In order to ensure the practical participation of the KMC and other municipal officers in the ongoing 15-day cleanliness campaign, all the departmental and sectional heads have been directed to submit a report to the KMC Administrator on daily basis about the cleanliness situation of their respective areas of residence.

In a meeting held under the chairmanship of KMC Administrator Fahim Zaman Khan on Monday, progress of the ongoing campaign was reviewed and various steps discussed to make it more effective.

It was decided that all the municipal officers should have a practical participation in the drive in one or the other way. They were asked to submit their report to the KMC Administrator personally daily at 9-30 a.m. identifying the areas where garbage is found lying and also lifting of the same so that the pace of work could be accelerated more effectively under better monitoring system.

The KMC officers would start submitting their reports to Administrator from Tuesday.

The citizens were appealed that they can lodge their complaints regarding cleanliness at any complaint centre and even to the KMC Administrator directly. Their complaints would entail immediate action.

Fahim Zaman Khan on Monday visited Manghopir, Pak Colony, Baldia Town, 13-D, Chandni Chowk, Orangi Town and adjoining areas in District East and reviewed the cleanliness work.

The DMC Administrator Umer Khan and KMC Director Health Dr Shukat Zaman, briefing the Administrator informed that besides routine cleanliness work, the garbage dumps are also being lifted. The shopkeepers and hotel owners are also being issued notices asking them to avoid throwing of garbage.

The KMC Administrator reiterated his appeal to citizens not to litter garbage on roads and streets and instead dump the same at one place.

He was informed that some 5,000 tonnes of garbage has been removed since January 15.

District Municipal Corporation South has chalked out plan for the on-going cleanliness drive. For this purpose the district has been divided into Clifton, Saddar/Garden, Mehmoodabad, Khori Gardan, Lyari East and Lyari West Zones.

The Chief Sanitary Inspector of each zone will be overall incharge of the campaign in his zone. He will deploy equipment and manpower in a manner that best results are achieved.ÑAPP
