Trading on commodity
markets picks up pace
RECORDER REVIEW
KARACHI: Commodity markets last week ending on January 15, 2000, following Eid holidays, remained dull in beginning but the trading tempo gradually increased later on.
Among risers were wheat, guwar, urad Punjab and Burma and some plastic mouldings, while losers included tuver and gram varieties, tea, milk powder, chemicals and dyes, steady trend was marked in jute, rubber and sugar.
TEA: Kenyan PF-1 A grade conceded Rs 7 to Rs 211, B grade dropped Rs 6 to Rs 194 and plus C grade also lost same amount to Rs 185. Bangladesh Garden Pack original was quoted at Rs 114. Gulab lost Rs 3 to Rs 106, and Khushbu shed same amount to Rs 107. China's green 9575, rose by Rs 10 to Rs 60.
Powdered Milk demand slackened. Full cream instant Bale Vole dropped Rs 75 to Rs 2,800. Creme rose by Rs 25 to Rs 2550 Bale Haleeb was down by Rs 95 to Rs 2,800. Mix Me conceeded Rs 50 to Rs 2625. Baili Gold shed Rs 25 to Rs 2,800. Kerry Gold dropped Rs 100 to Rs 2575. Comella was down and quoted at Rs 1430.
PLASTIC MOULDING: HDPE film (compound) Korea 3080 shed 25 paisa to Rs 25. HDPE injection Thai shed same amount to Rs 24.25. LLDPE escorene 6201 rose by Rs 5 to Rs 30 and Ladene gained same amount to Rs 30 polystyrene high impact polyrex rose by 50 paisa to Rs 2650 MC 59 was up by Rs 1.25 to Rs 26, and Saudia up by same amount to Rs 26. Polystyrene GP polyrex was up by Rs 35 to Rs 1470.
KIRANA: Black pepper from Vietnam rose by Rs 100 to Rs 14,600. White pepper was up at Rs 22,000. Big cardamom dropped Rs 300 to Rs 17,200. Cloves rose by Rs 175 to Rs 9,500 Gum gogal was up by Rs 100 to Rs 2700. Isbaghol Bhoosi rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6,800. Cuminseed was up by Rs 50 to Rs 2700. Darchini was up by same amount to Rs 3850.
DYES: Formaton Taiwan violet F3B 200 percent dropped sharply by Rs 25 to Rs 390 basic colours Aramine O was up by Rs 8 to Rs 113 Rohdamine B up by Rs 5 to Rs 210 malachite green was down by Rs 4 to Rs 140. Sulphur dyes sulphur 501 was quoted at Rs 35 sulphur yellow brown 5 G was up Rs 8 to Rs 60.
CHEMICALS: Caustic soda flakes Saudi was down by Re 1 to Rs 27. PVA Japan was down sharply to be quoted at Rs 117.15. Sitara caustic soda flakes was down by five paisa to Rs 24.25. Hydro sulphite China 88 percent dropped 55 paisa to Rs 58.30. Acetic acid Taiwan dropped 20 paisa to Rs 41.80. Hydrogen peroxide 35 percent Taiwan lost ten paisa to Rs 20.90, Korea shed same amount to Rs 20.40 and Thailand shed same amount to Rs 20.40
Wheat rose twice for a cumulative gains of Rs 10 to Rs 940 (inferior) and better type to Rs 950. However closing rates were Rs 935 to Rs 945.
Guwar prices went up, inferior by Rs 54 to Rs 1555 and better type by Rs 53 Rs 1608 on Saturday at rose by Rs 58 and Rs 54 to Rs 1608 and Rs 1662.
Gram grada was down by Rs 70 (inferior) and better type by Rs 90 to Rs 1980 yellow peas inferor lost Rs 25 to Rs 1175 and better type shed Rs 20 to Rs 1200. Beetle inferior lost Rs 45 to Rs 2070 and better shed Rs 50 to Rs 2100 fifty fifty inferior conceded Rs 10 to Rs 1990 and better shed Rs 25 to Rs 2025. Urad Burma inferior gained Rs 20 to Rs 990 and better was up by Rs 10 to Rs 1,000. Urad Punjab turned higher by Rs 62 to Rs 2312. Tuver Punjab lost Rs 75 to Rs 2375. Cottonseed better type was up at Rs 295 and cakes sharply higher inferior to be quoted at Rs 310 and better to be quoted up at Rs 295. Rapeseed Nawabshah lost Rs 25 to Rs 550 and better quoted at Rs 575 and cakes gained to be quoted higher at Rs 180.
SATURDAYS VARIATIONS: Rapeseed rose by Rs 3 to Rs 180 and better type was up Rs 2 to Rs 182. Til new Sindh rose by Rs 25 to Rs 1250 and better type up by same amount to Rs 1275. Moong Punjab was quoted at Rs 1850. Masoor dal imported turned lower at Rs 2550 and Rs 2800. Urad Punjab was quoted up Rs 2275 and Rs 2435. Guwar rose inferior by Rs 53 to Rs 1608, and better up at Rs 54 to Rs 1662. Irri 6 Sindh new shed Rs 25 to Rs 750 and Rs 800. Basmati new was up by Rs 50 to Rs 1900 and better type up by Rs 25 to Rs 1950. Super basmati was up by Rs 50 to Rs 2050 and better type was quoted at Rs 2200.
Betel-nut Thai dropped Rs 75 to Rs 200, and betel nut split Thai lost Rs 70 to Rs 180 and Malaysia lost Rs 40 to Rs 180.
