$1.1m denim export orders bagged at NY fair

KARACHI: One of the Pakistani exhibitors, who participated in the International Fashion Fabric Exhibition held in New York from October 16-19, last year, booked orders for supply of denim worth U.S.$ 1.1 million, according to a report received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan from the Consulate General of Pakistan, New York.
Denim fabric is a non-quota item and due to high demand in U.S. the export of Denmim fabric from Pakistan is likely to increase substantially during the coming months.
Ten leading manufacturers/exporters from Pakistan participated in the exhibition.
According to the Consulate General's report, following the visit of a 16 members delegation of Pakistan's software houses to U.S. in June last year, export of software and skilled manpower is likely to increase. New York is the hub of international exhibitions. Important exhibitions are regularly visited to contact local buyers. Printed material is collected and sent to the Export Promotion Bureau for information of Pakistan exporters. The material is a good source for latest fashion trends, quality and colour preferences. Pakistani businessmen visiting New York are encouraged to meet local importers, the report said.
The activities planned by Pakistan Consulate General, for the next 6 months include participation in Super Show Atlanta in February 2000. Space has been reserved, and 15 exhibitors will display their products. Exporters dealing in hunting knives, sports wear and sport socks have been selected by the EPB.
Tentative reservation has been made for participation in Leather Show Miami. This is specialized exhibition attended by leading international buyers/whole sellers of leather garments & leather goods.
Pakistan Readymade Garments Association is sending a 10 members delegation in Februray 2000. Pakistan Tanners Association in collaboration with EPB was also due to send an 18 members delegation to U.S.
