KARACHI: Environment and Local Government Minister Umer Asghar Khan said on Friday that the project of Bagh-e-Quaid-e-Azam would be completed before December 25 under the supervision of Army engineers.

He said this while speaking at the 47th meeting of Quaid-e-Azam Management Board.

He said on the directive of Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf the project has been assigned to Army's five engineering corp and would be carried out under the supervision of the corps commander.

He said this project would now be completed in one-year instead of stipulated two years at a cost of Rs 250 million as against the earlier estimate of Rs 320 million, thus saving an amount of Rs 50 million due to the involvement of Army engineers.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammed Zubair Kidwai, Environment Secretary Shafqat Yazdi, Housing Secretary Nazar Abbas Siddiqui, KDA DG, KMC administrator, Rangers DG, Brig. Asif Ghazali of five-engineering corp, Col. Abdullah Zubair besides citizens' representatives.

Earlier, Umer Asghar Khan attended a meeting at Qasr-e-Naz regarding marine pollution.

Manager Health, Safety and Environment, Shell Pakistan, Iqtidar Siddiqui, in a briefing informed the minister that a plan to control marine pollution had been prepared and would be launched by mid-2000.ÑAPP
