Apbuma seeks
facility for
value-added sector
RECORDER REPORT
MULTAN: All Pakistan Bedsheet and Upholstry Manufacturers Association (Apbuma) has appealed to the government to adopt what it described as "a pragmatic approach" to facilitate the value-added manufactuers, who had made large investments in modern technology and systems.
Express concern over the recently announced Quota Policy for the year 2000, Apbuma Chairman Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi said that government should take the value-added sectors into confidence before declaring the textile policy and top priority be given to it. Which is a reflective of the level of economic development of a country.
Khawaja Roomi said that the government had announced its first value-addition policy for a period of four years, which resulted increasing only one category 338 (knitwear) to $42 per dozen from $20.
The Apbuma chairman hoped that before formulating the new export policy, the commerce minister will give a patient hearing to the representatives of the value-addition manufactuers, exporter so as to redress their concern.
He demanded for extending the term of export refinance scheme.
