7 more Ehtesab courts: notification to be issued soon

T A MALIK

ISLAMABAD: The notification for the establishment of seven more Ehtesab courts would be issued soon for quick disposal of the cases against the defaulters, corrupt politicians, businessmen and bureaucrats.

This was stated by the Prosecutor General of Accountability (PGA), Farook Adam Khan, while talking to Business Recorder on Friday.

He said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) with the consultation of legal experts and Attorney General of Pakistan has finalised the amendments in the NAB Ordinance 1999. He said that more than 19 amendments have been proposed to give more teeth to the bureau.

He said that the Law Ministry has sent all the 19 amendments to the President and are likely to be promulgated within next 48 hours.

About the amendments he said that the new definition of wilful and non-wilful defaulters and white collar crimes are being introduced.

To a question about the arrests, he said that raids are being conducted to nab the remaining seven corrupt politicians and bureaucrats, included in the second phase of crackdown.

He said that operation against the corrupt will be initiated in phases and third phase would start after Eid-ul-Fitr.

He said that NAB has set up its own investigation cell and honest and dedicated persons have been selected from all the provinces for transparent investigations. He said that teams of two to three members have been constituted to investigate the cases.

Farook said that refresher course of one-week was conducted for the investigators as part of training before handing over the cases to them.
