Justice Jehangiri named Wafaqi Mohtasib

ISLAMABAD: President Rafiq Tarar has appointed the senior most puisne judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Mohammad Bashir Jehangiri, as acting Wafaqi Mohtasib. He is expected to take oath of his office on Tuesday morning.

Justice Khalil-ur-Rahman Khan, who retired from the Supreme Court last month has relinquished his office as acting Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman).

Justice Khan had held the additional charge of the position on the retirement of last incumbent in early 1999. He had also presided over the Federal Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of which there are only two judges left. Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed, like Justice Khan, retired following his refusal to take new oath and Justice Maulana Mahmud Ahmed Ghazi joined the National Security Council.. The bench has to be reconstituted anew now.
