institute tomorrow

KARACHI: The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Production, Abdul Razzak Dawood will visit the technical training institute of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) on Wednesday, February 9 to see the performance of the institute.

Javed Chinoy, Chairman, Prgmea (central), announcing the visit, said that the minister while reviewing requests for additional fundings for a second institute in Lahore from the Export Development Fund in Karachi last month had promised to see the working of the Karachi institute.

It may be pointed out that Abdul Razzak in the meeting held to review the performance of technical training institutes set up by various textile associations with the government funding had desired that he wanted to see these institutes to work as autonomous bodies to increase their efficiency as a professional institute.

The Prgmea's technical institute (Pregti) set up in October 1997 has so far trained 369 garment industry workers in different fields.

The Prgmea also offers scholarships to the deserving workers of the industry. Following the success of the training facility at Karachi, Prgmea plans to set up a similar institute in Lahore to train the workers of garment factories in the northern region.
