truck-wagon

collision

CHINIOT: As many as 12 persons were killed and six others sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between a wagon and a truck on Jhang-Chiniot Road some 15 km from here early Monday morning.

According to details, dense fog had engulfed the area greatly reducing visibility, when the wagon coming to Chiniot from Bhawana collided with a truck from the opposite side, and turned turtle.

The truck reportedly overturned on to the wagon, smashing it totally. Passengers of the wagon were extricated by people who had to reach survivors by cutting the wagon doors.

It was disclosed that as many as 11 persons had died on the spot. They were identified as wagon driver Nazir Ahmed, two brothers Mohammad Yaqub and Zahoor Ahmed of Mauza Magni, Manzoor Ali, and Mohammad Nawaz of Magni, Sarfraz of chak 241 Lagrana, Mohammad Anwar of chak 240, Amir of Bhawana and Javed Akhtar, Shah Beg and Haq Nawaz.

Another passenger died in the hospital whose name could not be known immediately.

Among those injured, Sajjad of Bhawana, Muzaffar and Zafar sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Allied Hospital Faisalabad in view of their precarious condition, while Aurangzeb was admitted to Civil Hospital Chiniot and Mukhtar and Ejaz Hussain to Jhang Civil Hospital.

On receiving information about the incident, the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP Jhang, and the AC Chiniot immediately reached the spot, and supervised the rescue operation, conveying the injured to hospital and those killed to their native towns.

People of the area also took part in the rescue operation and many crowded the hospitals where the injured were admitted to donate blood.ÑAPP
