Sindh drug procurement committe formed
KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has constituted a new committee to ensure transparent procurement of medicines for government hospitals.
The new committee would comprises professors, officers, experts and senior journalists.
This was decided at a meeting of health department held under the chairmanship of health minister Professor S.M. Rab.
The committee has been assigned to ensure procurement of quality medicines for government hospitals.
It was decided that the essential life saving drugs, available from only one company, will be procured through proprietary tenders and that these medicines would be purchased as per required quantity and utility.
The meeting decided that pharmaceutical companies would be asked to supply drugs to government hospitals on wholesale rates.
A sub-committee headed by Professor Masood Aziz was also established. This committee will look into ways and means to check sale of sub-standard drugs to government hospitals.
The committee was asked to submit its report within a week.
Another committee headed by S.A. Nasr will inspect and submit report on the procurement and distribution of drugs in hospitals.
Other members of the committee are: Secretary Health, Prof. Masood Hameed, Prof. Raheem Memon, Mohammed Arif Memon, Director Health Services, Prof. Adeeb Rizvi, S.A. Nasr, Prof. Ikhlaq Nabi, Usman Ghani, Ehsan Rasheed and a representative each from Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) and All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS). APP
