Govt asked to restore trade unions

LAHORE: Noriyuki Suzuki, the General Secretary of ICFTU-Asia Pacific has called upon the Government of Pakistan to fulfill its international obligations by restoring fundamental trade union rights of workers in conformity with ILO-ratified conventions.

Speaking at a reception for him by Pakistan Workers Federation here on Sunday, Suzuki said the IMF and the World Bank should review their economic and social policies to ease the sufferings of the people of developing countries.

The Government of Pakistan should fulfill her national and international obligations by restoring fundamental trade union rights of workers in conformity with ILO ratified conventions pertaining to freedom of association and right to organise in order to promote democratic participatory labour management relations and bring their legislation in conformity with ILO conventions.

This was stated by Noriyuki Suzuki, General Secretary, ICFTU-Asia and Pacific in a reception hosted in his honor by "Pakistan Workers Federation," here on Sunday.

He called upon the world financial bodies and other developed countries to waive off debt burdens of Pakistan and other developing countries.

Earlier, Khurshid Ahmad, General Secretary, Pakistan Workers Federation speaking on the occasion said that working class of Pakistan had been struggling to establish an egalitarian democratic society from exploitation and crony capitalism and feudalism.
