Early diagnosis helps prevent complications

ISLAMABAD: An early diagnosing of any disease helps prevent future's complications as well as save wealth of the patients, clinical pathologist Dr. Jamal Nasir said.

The doctors can overcome a number of the diseases with the help of laboratory tests and save the patients from many contagious or protracted diseases in the initial stages, he said in an interview with PTV.

Dr. Jamal denied the impression that doctors are in habit of sending patients for unnecessary tests saying that some doctors treat the patients without properly diagnosing their diseases in order to save their expenditures. This habit, he said, might provide some financial relief to the patient but in long run it may further complicate the situation.

He admitted that due to rush of patients in government hospitals, quality of treatment including pathological tests is not up to the desired standard.

In private clinics this standard may be better but each and sundry cannot afford the expenditure involved there, he opined.

He urged that all government laboratories should be computerised to get better results and avoid the mishandling of test results. This will help the doctors and the patients also, he added.

He emphasised the need for the development of tendency among the doctors towards minute investigation of disease which will help avoid the conversion of minor diseases into complicated ones.

He pointed out that depression and stress which is much common in today's society, produces some chemicals in human body, which adversely affect brain, blood veins, kidney and other organs of the body. As a result sugar and blood pressure diseases can be developed.

He said polluted water is a main cause of hepatitis, typhoid, dysentery and acidity in stomach and suggested the use of boiled water.

The use of anti-biotic medicine during the attack of flue is not useful as this is a viral disease. Self-medication without doctors' prescription is dangerous which affects the resistance system of body.

Similarly, the use of dispirin in huge quantity harm the body and its excessive use creates acidity in stomach which may result in blood vomiting.

He said that normally people contact doctors when the disease is much developed. In such cases treatment of the disease also takes long time which puts extra financial burden on the patient along side with physical sufferings. APP
