MULTAN: The corruption mafia in National Registration Office, Multan region, has issued more than 1,000 national identity cards of Afghan nationals against Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,000 each, revealed an inquiry report compiled by the District Registrar, Vehari.

Sources said an organised gang led by Rana Zulfikar Ali managed to get seven clerks transferred named Abdul Karim, Khurshid Ahmed, Zia-ul-Haq, Mohammad Khalid, Mohammad Sajid, Mohammad Zahur and Gulzar to Balochistan for opposing him.

He was reportedly being backed by the Deputy Director of the regional registration office.

A number of complaints were sent to the Interior Ministry but not action was taken sofar.

On Friday, Rana Zulfikar got Rs. 5,000 against a national from a Danish woman for issues a NIC because she wanted to get Pakistani passport.

He got orders issued by the Deputy Director for issuance urgent NIC, then he attested the form on the spot and handed her over NIC within two hours.

Regional office director Habib Sarwar Tariq caught him re-handed but he managed to runaway, while his accomplice clerks Mohammad Ilyas and Riaz Ali were transferred to the head office.

They confessed the crime and stated that about a thousand NICs had so far been issued through Rana Zulfiqar Ali with the connivance of the deputy director. But regional registration director neither informed the FIA nor took any action against the deputy director.

When contacted, the Director said that all the seven clerks, who were transferred to Balochistan as a result of conspiracy of the corruption mafia, were called back to Multan. He was not authorised to take any action against the deputy director.

However, he had informed the headquarter about the situation. While inquiry report, which has been completed on Friday, would also be submitted to the ministry.
