ANP, MQM discuss national issues

KARACHI: President, Awami National Party (ANP), Afsand Yar Wali Khan on Saturday held discussions with Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, Deputy Convener, Muttehida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on matters of national importance including "fair and crystal" accountability, rule of law, and establishment of independent Election Commission.

Both leaders also discussed issue concerning amendments in the electoral rolls and other important matters that would be discussed in meeting of the 19-opposition parties Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) which meets in Karachi on February 8-9, 2000.

The meeting on February 8 to be participated by heads and tap leaders of GDA will be held at the MQM headquarters, in Azizabad, while on the next day at Bilawal House.

Talking to newsmen Aftab Sheikh stressed that the MQM leadership was in constant touch with all national political leaders and making "sincere efforts to strengthen national unity, forging cooperation and understanding".

"Both the MQM and ANP firmly believe and practice democratic principles. MQM is part of the GDA and bound to implement its decisions," he observed.

He contended that recent amendment in the National Accountbaility Bureau (NAB) Ordinance "clashes with fundamental human rights enshrined in the Constitution. PPI
