KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to take strict action against heavy vehicles who ruin roads of Karachi and are cause of accidents due to over-speeding.

A report prepared by traffic agencies and submitted to Sindh government said that water and oil tankers, besides other heavy vehicles make life miserable in the city, causing traffic congestion, accidents and other problems for pedestrians and small vehicles.

The report said thousands of oil tankers reach the port crossing after passing through main and smaller roads of the city. This created traffic chaos during shuttle service of oil tankers.

The report suggested that a night shift for oil tankers shuttle service should be allowed, for which lot of work has already been done. Meetings will be held with transport associations and oil companies to explore options of night shift, construction of a trucks terminal and option of establishing offices of oil companies for issuance of D.O to transporters at Darsano Channo.

It also suggested a check against those water tankers which are plying without valid documents. Warning should first be given to their owners to validate documents within 15 days.

The area of Sabzi Mandi is also jam packed during the service of heavy trucks loaded with vegetables and fruits from up-country. This creates problems for commuters.ÑPPI
