Kashmir Day

in Sindh
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: Kashmir Day to express solidarity with the freedom fighters and to protest against the atrocities being perpetuated upon the helpless people of Kashmir by the Indian government was observed throughout the province on Saturday.
Protest marches, rallies and demonstrations were held in Karachi and other parts of all the major towns of Sindh.
The main rally in Karachi was held in front of the Karachi Press Club where effigies of Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpai were burnt.
The day was already declared a public holiday and all private and public institutions remained closed to express their support to the Kashmiri cause. Not all, but many public transporters did not bring their vehicles on the road. Generally, the vehicular traffic was thin and all business centres and shopping areas kept their shutters down.
In many localities inside the city except confectioners, milk sellers and vegetable vendors, other shops remained closed.
PPI adds: In Badin, a big procession was taken out from Shah Nawaz Chowk, which was led by Deputy Commissioner Badin, Iqbal Husain Durani. The rallies in other towns of Badin, like Matli, Golarchi, Talhar and Tando Bago, were also taken out. Jamaat-e-Islami also staged demonstration. They also held a public meeting at Jacobabad and Kandh Kot which were addressed by Moalana Assadullah Bhutto and other leaders.
At Mirpurkhas, rallies were organised by various NGOs, educational institutions and district administration. A big rally was led by Deputy Commissioner, Mirpurkhas, Ahmed Bux Narejo. A function was also organised by Government Girls High School Bhansingh Abad, Mirpurkhas, where the girls presented tableau and other programmes.
Big rallies and processions were also taken out in Moro, Dadu, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Umer Kot, Sanghar and other towns of the province.
