Daudpota chairs cabinet meeting

KARACHI: Sindh Cabinet met here under the chairmanship of Governor Air Marshal Azim Daudpota (Rtd) at the new Sindh Secretariat on Thursday.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Mohammad Zubair Kidwai and secretaries of the departments concerned.

A matter arising out of the items of previous meeting relating to construction of northern bypass was further discussed and the Minister, Irrigation and Power A.N.G. Abbasi informed that the committee members visited site of the bypass where all was clear except some small structures and allotted plots which were to be removed.

He further informed that the Super Highway would be repaired at places where it had been damaged to make it motorable right from Karachi to Hyderabad. Besides, road from Hyderabad to Karachi via Thatta would be constructed on the pattern of express way.

It will be constructed by federal government for share of 20 perent of the total toll.

The cabinet also recorded appreciation for the Minister for Irrigation and Power A.N.G. Abbasi in handling the matter pertaining to Wapda dues. It was decided that the current bills of Wapda should be paid promptly while the matter of dues would be settled judiciously keeping in view the interest of the province.

The matters pertaining to the jail condition were also discussed with particular reference to foreign convicts and detenus. It was decided that the Home Department would send such cases to Law Department to sort out these cases in consultation with the federal government.

The first item on the agenda related to Karachi circular railway. The cabinet was informed that although the Railways ministry was suffering a loss of Rs 5 million per year, the project should have been kept operational for the facility of the Karachiites. APP
