Consumers protection councils

LAHORE: Government has decided to constitute "Consumers Protection Councils to save the consumers from the onslaught of profit hungry traders.

This was disclosed by Ali Ahmed, Chief Joint Controller, General Prices and Supplies, Ministry of Industries and Production while addressing a meeting here.

He said, Sunday as well as Jumma Bazars would be made more effective to ensure the cheaper availability of quality grocery items to the consumers by eliminating the profit margin of middleman.

He dispelled the impression that there was sugar shortage in the country. He said the government had taken some steps disallowing the sugar dealers or retailers to charge higher prices.

The ghee manufacturers have already been asked to keep the prices of ghee at minimum level. They have also been asked to use prime quality tin plates for packing their products.

He said that the government was making efforts to end disparity amongst the prices of essential commodities in all the provinces.ÑPPI
