Arrangements
for export goods
processing on
Sunday urged
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) has requested the Collector of Customs (Export) to make arrangements for processing of export consignments on Sunday otherwise many consignments will miss the vessels scheduled to sail on Monday.
Prgmea (South Zone), chairman Bilal Mulla said in a statement that February 5, which has been declared a closed holiday by the government, was the last loading day for vessels due to sail from the Karachi Port and the Port Qasim.
He said due to the public holiday Customs export departments at the Karachi Port and the Port Qasim were likely to be closed and hence would not register and examine export consignments.
Since exports are most vital for the national economy at this juncture the Customs should direct its examination staff to work on Sunday and process export consignments so that these do not miss the vessels departing on Monday.
