0.2m children die every year due to impure water
DERA GHAZI KHAN: Non availability of clean, potable drinking water has been responsible for various diseases and has caused the death of almost are 0.2 million children upto five years' age in Pakistan, every year.
This was stated by the District Health officer Mohammad Anwar Chaudhry at a workshop held with the cooperation of UNICEF at DG Khan.
He warned this number could increase in the present millennium if these conditions were allowed to continue.
The issue of provision of safe drinking water in barani and hilly areas needed to be solved on war footing, as stagnant water bred fatal diseases of the liver and kidney, such as hepatitis.
He urged parents and NGOs to create and spreed awareness in this regard, and play their role in preventing the untimely death of countless children. APP
