Fearful judgment

LONDON: A teenage British mother who had her newborn baby adopted failed in her legal challenge to win him back.

In what he described as a "fearful" judgment Mr Justice Sumner ruled the 19-year-old mother had been unreasonable in changing her mind and asking for the return of the boy -- who will be one year-old on Wednesday -- from the couple with whom he has lived since last April.

"This is a judgment that I would much rather not have given," Judge Sumner told the Family Division of the High Court in London. "It is not because at the end of the day I have doubts but because inevitably I am going to hurt someone very much indeed by my decision."-Reuters
