CBR to brief CE on GST, corrupt officials today
RECORDER REPORT
ISLAMABAD: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) will give a comprehensive briefing to the Chief Executive on Thursday about the latest development on general sales tax (GST), corrupt officials, rightsizing and revenue collection during the first half of 1999-2000, official sources said.
The Chief Executive, Pervez Musharraf, is scheduled to visit the CBR on Thursday morning to have maiden face-to-face meeting with tax managers. The CE is expected to address the CBR officials during his visit.
The CBR has prepared a list of corrupt officials that would be presented before the CE for quick action, said an official of the CBR.
He said that during the last few weeks the CBR officials have held many rounds of discussions with traders throughout the country and discussed with them the enforcement of GST at retail stage.
The CBR will give its assessment to the Chief Executive about traders views on GST, its implications on revenue collection if not imposed during this fiscal.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive will also be given a briefing about the revenue receipts in six months and the prospects of tax collection in 1999-2000.
