ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Chief Executive National Affairs and Information Javed Jabbar has tendered his resignation from the chairmanship of Strengthening Participatory Organisations (SPO).

According to a press release, Javed Jabbar had tendered his resignation as, in his opinion, there may be a conflict of interest between his duties as adviser to the Chief Executive of Pakistan on National Affairs, Information and Media Development and his work as Chairman SPO, which is non-governmental organisation.

The matter was taken up at the meeting of the board of directors and general body of the SPO, development organisation that works with over 500 community based organisations in all four provinces of Pakistan, which recorded its appreciation by the untiring efforts and dedication shown by Jabbar during his two consecutive tenures as the SPO Chairman from 1994 to 2000.

Javed Jabbar has been associated in a voluntary capacity with SPO as a founder member since its establishment in 1994. The SPO is the only organisation of its kind operating on a nation-wide basis, devoted primarily to training and capacity holding of small rural and urban CBOs.

The SPO members unanimously adopted a resolution requesting Jabbar to continue as a member of the board of directors and as a member of the general body.ÑAPP
