Food, co-op depts directed to speed up recovery drive

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Zubair Kidwai on Thursday directed provincial food and cooperative departments to immediately provide all relevant details to divisional commissioners for speedy recovery of outstanding cooperative dues.

He was presiding over a meeting of the provincial secretaries to review progress their departments have made in achieving their objectives/targets.

Kidwai asked the cooperative department's officials to complete recovery of dues by June 2000.

The Secretary food department informed about the steps adopted to increase the procurement target of wheat as compared with last year. The meeting approved a proposal to associate Army Monitoring Team, besides deputy commissioners, during wheat procurement drive in the province.

The secretary education said that the targeted increase in the primary school enrollment from 2.24 million students to 2.29 million students would be completed.

The secretary education said that repair work of 495 primary schools was underway and was expected to be complete soon.

The secretary industries informed the meeting that a company had been floated under the name and style of Indus Technology Parks (Guarantee) Limited and 50 acres of land earmarked at Site Super-Highway Karachi for its development.

The park will house local and multinational software houses, data communication centres, hardware assembling and manufacturing facilities.

The excise and taxation department was directed to complete general survey of all the properties by June 2001. The Secretary E&T informed the meeting that out of 21 property divisions in Karachi, general survey of B&C divisions would be completed by March this year.
