CE calls for immediate improvement in govt depts working

Islamabad: Chief Executive, General Pervez Musharraf, has stressed the need for immediate improvement in public service departments and to remove corrupt officials at all levels.

Addressing the two-day conference of Corps Commanders on Monday at GHQ, he directed that Army Monitoring System would be utilised to the fullest to identify corrupt officials.

The General directed immediate improvement in the facilities for the public for payment of the utility bills; compliance of traffic rules and regulations; ease in registration, and provision of national identity cards, licences, passports; performance of all government servants particularly police and patwaris; and conditions and administration of jails.

He said that there was need for further improving the existing monitoring system so that maximum benefit could be provided to the common man. He said the public was facing difficulties in various sectors of life and their problems should be removed.

He said that the people of Pakistan held their Armed Forces in the highest esteem and were looking towards them to take the country out of the present crisis.

The conference reviewed the prevailing geo-strategic environment, the situation along the borders and line of control the working on boundary and other matters of national Security.

The Chief Executive said that the Armed Forces were providing all possible assistance to the government in its aim of good governance without compromising on operational preparedness in any manner.

He reiterated the commitment and resolve of the Armed Forces to live up to the sacred trust reposed in them by the nation.

The participants were of the view that while overall improvement in governance had been registered throughout the country, there was need to further enhance the efficiency of the monitoring system at both federal and provincial levels. The need for a separate system of monitoring at the urban and rural areas and improvement of the performance of Complaint Cells set up in various government departments by the monitoring mechanism to redress public grievances also came under discussion.

Detailed discussions were held on the external and internal security situation, governance and the monitoring mechanism.

Chairman, National Reconstruction Bureau, Lieutenant-General Syed Tanveer Hussain Naqvi (Retired) gave a detailed presentation on the functioning and tasks of the Bureau, which was followed by a question and answer session.
