CBR urged to provide funds to Sialkot dry port customs

SIALKOT: Ch. Amjad Ali Cheema, Chairman, Surgical Manufacturers Association of Pakistan, said that CBR seemed to be ignorant and not cognisant of the vital role of exports.

He said the top brass sitting in CBR deliberately create snags and hassles to curb all attempts to give fillip to the country's exports. Delaying tactics on the part of CBR officials are also among the reasons for the decline of exports.

Cheema said that he had been pointing out to CBR officials about the inordinate delay in the settlement of rebate claims by the Customs Collectorate at Sialkot Dry Port Trust, Sambrial, due to paucity of funds which is affecting the liquidity of exporters and causing unrest in the business circles. It was amazing that the CBR was turning deaf ear to the genuine recommendations of trade bodies, he added.

The Surgical Association chairman said that CBR must arrange to transfer at least a sum of Rs 350 million on emergency basis to the Customs Collectorate, Sialkot Dry Port Trust, Sambrial, to remove the deadlock in the settlement of duty drawback claims.

Amjad appealed to the Chief Executive of the country to intervene in this matter to normalise the situation.
