HYDERABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer, Professor Ghafoor Ahmed has said that the people who were fed up with the rule of Nawaz Sharif had welcomed his ouster by Gen. Pervez Musharraf on October 12 but regretted that he had failed to fulfil even one promise during the last four months.

He was speaking on "Mir Brothers Day" (the death anniversary of Mir Ali Ahmed Khan Talpur and Mir Rasool Bux Khan Talpur) at Tando Mir Mehmood here on Sunday.

The anniversary was held under the aegis of Mir Brothers Memorial Foundation (MBMF).

Professor Ghafoor said that Pakistan was in the grip of unprecedented financial crisis and added that if no immediate steps were taken to rectify the situation, the country would be destroyed.

Paying tributes to Mir Brothers, he said they had devoted themselves to the service of the oppressed people. He said Mir Brothers performed an important role in the creation of Pakistan and had also remained in power but they were scrupulously honest.

He termed the performance of the government during the last four months as disappointing.

He strongly condemned the police barbarity on the JSQN and MQM demonstrations in Karachi.

The Sindh National Front General Secretary Gul Mohammad Jakhrani said that people of all the four provinces had taken full part in the creation of Pakistan and demanded that it should be acknowledged that Pakistan comprised of five nations.

The MBMF Patron Mir Rafiq Ahmed Talpur said that instead of coming for help to the west, the country should change its direction towards the real "Kaaba".

He said the country had become slave to the World Bank and IMF.

The others who spoke on the occasion included Syed Hussain Shah Bukhari, Abdul Karim Rahu, Sardar Abdul Malik Kanju, Abdul Waheed Qureshi, Sahibzada Shabbir Ahmed Ansary, Allah Bux Magsi and others. A large number of people attended the anniversary.
