Lahoud warns Israel against giving up pact protecting civilians
BEIRUT: Lebanese president Emile Lahoud accused Israel on Friday of adopting Nazi policies by threatening to bomb civilian targets in retaliation for resistance attacks on its soldiers occupying south Lebanon.
"Israeli criminal activity is inherited from the Nazi school. The Israelis are trying to subject the Arabs and Lebanese to what they claim they have been subjected to in the last world war," Lahoud said in a statement.
Israel destroyed three Lebanese power stations on February 7 after Hizbollah guerrillas killed five of its soldiers in south Lebanon. It threatened to hit more civilian targets if more of its soldiers were attacked.
Hizbollah, Islamic fighters backedc by Syria and Iran, is leading a war of attrition to drive out Israel from south Lebanon. It has killed two more Israeli soldiers since the Israeli threats to bomb more infrastructure.
On Friday the Syrian parliament unanimously approved a declaration which described the Israeli raids on Lebanon as "Nazi actions".-Reuters
