Jabbar rules out any move to curb Press freedom

ISLAMABAD: The Adviser to Chief Executive on Information, Javed Jabbar, on Tuesday said that the government was not considering any laws to control freedom of the Press.

"There are no laws under consideration to control or curb freedom of the Press," Jabbar said in response to queries from journalists at the conclusion of inaugural ceremony of a Workshop on Information and Communication Technology.

The press, he said, enjoys unprecedented freedom under the present government.

In response to a question, he referred to an editor's comments that "the Press enjoys liberty but there should a criterion for becoming an editor and even a journalists."

"It is up to the Press if its representatives bodies including APNS, CPNE, PFUJ and Apnec come up with a proposal for such criteria," said Jabbar. APP
