transport policy
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: The government is preparing a National Transport Policy with the help of World Bank recommendations and foreign investment.
The government will offer mainly the foreign investors to explore the potential in the transport sector of the country.
Pioneering effort in this regard has been made by the World Bank Infrastructure Team in Pakistan in providing a forum for transport experts of the country to debate the various issues and reach a broad consensus on policy matters.
The transport professionals believe that the country badly needs an urgent transport policy which will assist the ailing national economy.
The World Bank is expected to submit its recommendations to the government in June this year. The bank is organising a series of seminars on the subject all over the country and gathering recommendations from the experts who are practically involved in the transportation business.
The bank made a number of experts' coordination committees to evolve a strategy for development and implementation of the recommendations regarding the Transport Policy.
Khawja Raffat Zaheer was elected as the chairman of the Coordinators' Steering Committee with a mandate to promote consultation with the various sub-sectoral transport groups.
