CAC to review cotton production on Monday
ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Cotton Assessment Committee (CAC) will be held on Monday (February 7) to review the production of cotton crop 1999-2000.
Official sources told APP that representatives of all federal and provincial agriculture departments and stakeholders including ginners, growers and Aptma will participate in the meeting.
Shafi Niaz, Member, National Security Council, who is also chairman of the committee, will preside over the meeting.
Sources said that production of over 10 million bales is expected against the target of 11 million bales. He said that the local requirement is more than 8.5 million bales.
Around 1.5 million bales would be available for export and country will earn foreign exchange worth million rupees.
He said that last year private sector exported 83,000 bales and orders for more 427,000 bales have been registered while TCP has obtained orders for the export of half a million bales.
He said that the prices of cotton have been raised in the international market and TCP would earn a profit of billion rupees through export.
He suggested that the government should give incentives to the growers from the profit in order to compensate them. APP
