LHC calls for ADSJ's refusal orders of serial killing case

Recorder Report

LAHORE: Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Mian Allah Nawaz has called for the orders of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Lahore in which he had refused to transfer the case of the alleged serial killer, Javed Iqbal Mogal, to the special anti-terrorism court.

The CJ directed the Registrar to present these orders before him on Saturday.

The Chief Justice was responding to a writ petition filed by Mumtaz Ahmed and relatives of some other victims of the serial killings.

The petitioners contended that the crime of the accused is heinous and falls within the category of terrorism. Hence, it should be tried by the special court.

They said that this incident had created panic in the society.

They, therefore, prayed to the court to declare the orders of the respondent judge as illegal and without lawful authority.

Earlier, the LHC officials had returned the writ petition asking them to attach the orders in question with the petition.

The petitioners' counsel, Aftab Ahmed Bajwa, was of the view that the respondent judge was not issuing him the orders in question hence he had failed to attach the same with the petition.

He later approached the Chief Justice and prayed him to issue some appropriate directions for the provision of the orders.

The Chief Justice heard him patiently and passed the orders accordingly.
