Disparity between
wages in various
regions sorted out
ISLAMABAD: The National Tripartite Minimum Wage Council met here on Thursday, and sorted out various disparities between the wages prevalent in various regions of the country, so as to bring them a par with the current price indices.
The Federal Secretary, Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Division, Yousuf Kamal, highlighted the importance of concerted efforts among all the provinces to share each other's experience for devising common mechanism.
He also urged to have a global and regional scenario of wage pattern so as the country could learn from the experiences of other developing countries in enhancing its workforce absorption in the new labour markets.
Viable mechanism of wage system improves quality of work and can enable Pakistani work force to be absorbed abroad, he said and added, it helps create a work culture for greater efficiency and higher productivity.
It is not potential to satisfying the working class but has also the potential to come up to the aspirations and expectations of the respective industries, he said.
The council was undertaking inter-provincial consultation on the principles, norms and standard for the purpose of fixing uniform rates of minimum wages for the skilled and unskilled labour force.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of Provincial Minimum Wage Boards of Punjab, Sindh and NWFP, besides Mian Tajamal Hussain, Chairman Chanab Group of Industries and Mohammad Sharif, President National Federation of Trade Unions and representatives of Ministry of Information and Media Development and Ministry of Law.ÑAPP
