NHA chief presses

for early completion

of road projects

ISLAMABAD: The Chairman, National Highway Authority (NHA), Maj Gen Viqar-ul-Haq Khan Khalid (Retd), on Wednesday said that national highways are not only a source of economic and social uplift but also forge unity in the country.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of the road building experts at the regional office of the authority here in which national highways projects in Sindh were reviewed in detail.

The NHA chairman stressed upon the road building experts to complete the national highways projects as per schedule and to pay particular attention towards construction standard.

Viqar-ul-Haq said that Sindh possesses vital significance in agricultural and industrial development and it is a centre of commercial activity.

Keeping in view its role in industrial development, the NHA chief said that the need is that the national highways projects in Sindh be completed on priority basis so that pace of economic development could be geared up.

Giving briefing about the national highway projects in Sindh NHA member Syed Najmul Hassan, said the portion of national highway N-5 falling in Sindh is being dualised at a rapid pace.

He said dualisation work of 114-km long Hala-Moro section is expected to be completed by the end of running year while more than 53 percent work on Moro-Kotri-Kabir section has been completed and the pace of work on Kotri Kabir-Baberlo section is being accelerated.

The NHA member said, Baberlo-Ghotki and Ghotki-Ubaro sections have been completed except for Sarhad By-pass.

He said, four sections of Indus Highway falling Sindh have also been completed. All the available resources are being utilised in a proper way for earlier completion of the highway projects in Sindh, he added.ÑAPP
