New printing, graphic tech in Karachi shortly
KARACHI: A new technology in the discipline of printing and graphics is shortly being introduced at Swedish Institute of Technology for which a new building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 18.163 million.
During a visit to the institute on Wednesday, Sindh Education Minister Anita Ghulam Ali was informed that the Asian Development Bank had provided Rs 23.4 million for the purchase of machines and equipment, tenders for which are being invited.
The Chairman of the Institute's Management Committee, Zubair Chhaya, informed the minister that at present this technology was available only in Lahore. Karachi will be the second city to have it.
The Minister directed that the project be accomplished speedily so that the students could benefit from this modern technology.
She said admissions to this technology would be awarded only on merit so that talented students are duly encouraged.
The minister unfolded her plans for the promotion of education in Sindh and particularly the development of existing technical institutes with provision of better academic environment.
Zubair Chhaya told the minister that the management committee is determined to bring required improvement in the field of technical education so that no problem is faced when students pass out from here and go for jobs. He said this would greatly help provide jobs to the youth.
Also present on the occasion were provincial Education Secretary Muhammed Sharif Baluch, Chairman of the Management Committee for Government Women Polytechnic Institute, Masooma Lotia, IMC Chairman Saifi Institute Muhammed Yakub and others. APP
