Microsoft launches Windows 2000 today

ISLAMABAD: Microsoft will launch Windows 2000 on Thursday the most advanced computer operating system the software giant has ever produced in its 25-year history all over the world including Pakistan.

"The new operating system offers major advantages to users in terms of scalability, reliability, Internet integration, security and multilingual capabilities", Microsoft Business Development Manager in Pakistan Kamran Iqbal told APP here on Wednesday.

The Windows 2000 platform, successor to Windows NT 4.0, is an ideal e-commerce platform for the next generation of business computing and addresses the full range of customers' computing needs, from notepads, laptops and desktops to high-end, clustered servers, he said.

The Windows 2000 family includes Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Windows 2000 Datacenter Server. The Windows 2000 Professional is 24 percent faster than Windows NT Workstation 4.0, he added.

The Windows 2000, is being backed by leading computer companies including Acer, Cisco Systems, Compaq Computer, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel and Unisys.

Over 1,000 key information technology managers and business leaders from around the region will attend the launch exhibition at Dubai on February 17. APP
