British academics visit
Textile Institute of Pakistan
KARACHI: Dr William Cooke and Dr Chris Carr from Department of Textiles, University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST), are currently visiting the Textile Institute of Pakistan (TIP) in Karachi. A project of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma), the TIP was founded in 1994 by 12 leading textile industrialists. The man campus has been built on a 50 acres site in the Port Qasim Authority Area with financial support of Export Development Fund from Export Promotion Bureau.
The visit is part of a higher education link established between the TIP and UMIST, funded by DFID and administered by the British Council. The objective of this link is to extend mutual cooperation between the two institutes by faculty exchanges, curriculum development and professional development courses in various aspects of textile sector.
Dr Cooke is a specialist in knitting technology & design and currently is the Course Leader of Textile Design and Design Management at UMIST while Dr Carr is a Senior Lecturer in Textile Chemistry. During their week-long visit, they will be interacting with both students and faculty at the TIP and will deliver lectures in their specialist areas.ÑPR
