315 vehicle owners avail of amnesty in Lahore

Lahore: The Vehicle Amnesty Scheme announced by the federal government has attracted a large number of owners of non-duty paid vehicles plying on the roads, and so far, over 315 vehicles have been regularised.

The Collectorate of Customs, Lahore, has added Rs 7.20 million to the national exchequer in terms of duty and taxes under the scheme, claimed a spokesman of the department here on Wednesday.

On Feb 14 and 15, more than 150 vehicles were regularised, he said and added, most of the non-duty paid vehicles included Toyota Corolla, Charade, Starlet, Nissan of 1980-90 models and one Mercedes Benz of 1990 model, he stated.

He said that the collectorate has established a special car assessment cell at the NLC dryport where transport system of car assessment is going on smoothly and the same day clearing facility, is being extended to the owners of non-duty paid vehicles.

The spokesman said that the government has further extended the Amnesty Scheme up to March 15 and it is expected that the people will benefit from this facility and get their vehicles regularised.

Meanwhile, Collector Customs Aftab Baloch has asked all the law-abiding citizens to come forward and regularise their vehicles, if they had any.

He has warned that after March 15, a 'special crackdown' will be launched and all non-duty paid vehicles will be confiscated outrightly.
