JI Black Day on 20th: Lahore Declaration anniversary

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami has announced to observe February 20 as 'Black Day' throughout the country as on this day last year the deposed Prime Minister, Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, had signed Lahore Declaration along with his Indian counterpart, Atal Behari Vajpayee.

On this day, the JI had staged a series of protests while the government tear-gassed a public meeting of the Jamaat and arrested a number of its workers. To condemn that tragic incident, the JI had decided to hold public meetings throughout the country.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the JI Punjab Chief, Hafiz Mohammad Idrees, has directed the workers to start the day with recitation of the holy Quraan.
