EU-sponsored M Phil programme completes

KARACHI: The first semester of the European Union sponsored M.Phil. programme at Karachi University's Area Study Centre for Europe (ASCE) has been completed.

The year-long course work had started in October last year, a university official said on Monday.

Dr Anna Lisa Ghini from Italy is serving as the resident fellow and also teaching basic courses on the EU.

From time to time, faculty members from EU are coming here to impart specialised knowledge pertaining to the EU.

The M.Phil. course is being attended by 37 students and the enrollment is termed as high and it is stated that this speaks of the interest being taken in such a course.

The admission were granted after an entrance test and conducting interviews of the candidates, the university official added.

This M.Phil. programme has been initiated at the ASCE as the desire on the part of the EU to spread knowledge in Pakistan about the EU.

This was also designed to develop the ASCE at Karachi University so that it could impart specialised studies.

Under the two six months' each senior research grants, professors and associate professors from ASCE Karachi will proceed to the EU countries on study tour.ÑAPP
