CE to be briefed today about foreign funded projects
AMER SIAL
ISLAMABAD: The Chief Executive, General Pervaz Musharraf, would be given a detailed briefing on the foreign funded projects in the irrigation, power and social sectors on February 15.
The projects include floods (2 projects), national drainage programme, farm water management (phase-4), punjab, private sector ground water development project and poverty alleviation programme.
Sources said that these programmes focus on the country's debit picture with special focus on development aid and mechanics of development aid and acquisition and disbursement.
The CE would be briefed on the second phase of about to commence Rs 8 billion Flood Sector Project-2. This project has been jointly funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
National drainage programme was started in 1997 and this Rs 31.4 billion project is to be completed with the assistance of World Bank, ADB and JBIC. The government of Pakistan (GOP) would also share the cost of the project.
For the about to commence fourth phase of 'On Farm Water Management (OFWM-4) project, WB is to provide Rs 7 billion and local component would be Rs 5.8 billion.
Punjab private sector ground water development project was started in 1996 and its total cost is estimated at Rs 2.88 billion.
Poverty alleviation programme consists of two phases: Social Action Programme 1 and 2. These programmes were started to address poverty alleviation, primary and middle education, health, population welfare and rural water supply.
The first phase of the SAP was executed in 1993-94 at an expenditure of Rs 106.4 billion. The second phase of SAP is in progress and during 1997-99 period Rs 92.5 million expenditure has been incurred.
